Local Conservatives call for new candidates for new County Council seats

The local Conservative party in Redhill is calling on residents who are interested in standing as Conservatives in next May’s County Council elections to come forward and enter its selection process.

As a result of boundary changes Redhill will be the only part of the County to get a new representative at County Hall, giving the town an extra voice on County Council affairs.  Interested applicants for selection are also welcomed for other parts of the Borough.

Rita Renton, Chairman of the local Conservatives, said

We are looking for anyone who is committed to working for their local community, and who shares Conservative principles.  We are looking for people who can be strong advocates for this area, and play their part in the running of Surrey County Council – a £1bn organisation.

You do not need to have been involved in politics in the past – many of our best councillors have been those who approached us from the community, wanting to make a difference.

Local residents who are interested in finding out more should visit www.rbca.org.uk or contact Fraser Macfarland, local Conservative organising secretary, on 01737 249 740 or via Fraser.McFarland@rbca.org.uk.

Notes:

  • As a result of population change within the County, Reigate & Banstead now has the largest population of any Borough or district.
  • The Boundary Commission for England therefore undertook a review of Surrey County Council’s electoral map, and awarded Reigate & Banstead and additional seat to reflect the greater population.  The Borough will now have 10 out of the 81 County Council seats.
  • The new seat is for part of Redhill, which means that all of the boundaries of the other 9 seats will also change next year.
  • The political makeup of the existing 9 County Council seats in the Borough is 7 Conservative, 1 Residents’ Association and 1 Liberal Democrat.
It's very calm over here, why not leave a comment?
