A short ceremony of blessing of a memorial to Lance Corporal James Hill will take place at the War Memorial at Shaw’s Corner Redhill on Thursday 4 November at 11am.
Lance Corporal James Hill, of 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards was killed in action in Afghanistan on 8th October 2009. James was the only son of Brian and Claire Hill of Redhill and fiancée of Anastasia Newman.

Surrey Country Council Leader Dr Andrew Povey has described the country wide budget announcement of an extra £100 million funding for road repairs nationally will only allow councils to “paper over the cracks”.
He welcomed the emergency funds, Dr Povey stressed that at least £200 million is needed in Surrey alone to get its roads into a good enough condition.
Car club proposed for Redhill and Reigate
The Surrey Mirror reports that a car club scheme is being planned for Redhill and Reigate, jointly supported by Surrey County Council and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council (link to article here). The scheme is in its early stages and would involve sharable cars being parked at locations in the two town centres, available for use by residents who register and have a special swipe card.

Surrey County Council has been given the lowest increase in county council funding in England for 2010/11. The government’s latest finance settlement confirmed Surrey will receive £1.8 million more than in 2009/10, a 1.5% increase.
The average rise for county councils was just under 4%. The average increase for all types of local authority was 2.6%.
